Faculty Awards
Sustained Research Award
This award will be presented to a research faculty member who has made significant, high quality, innovative research contributions to their field of study, visibly impacting one or more mission areas over an extended period of time. It is expected that such contributions would have brought widespread recognition to the researcher, their laboratory, and the Institute. Outstanding research should highlight important developments of implementation that represent new area(s) of opportunity for research for the Institute and industry as appropriate. Each nomination package should include (a) a nomination letter (2 pages) summarizing the candidate’s noteworthy accomplishments (e.g., key impacts achieved in sustained research) and (b) the candidate’s resume. A faculty member may receive this award only once.
Best Paper Award
Up to two awards consisting of a certificate, a plaque, and $3,000 each will be given to faculty authors of an outstanding paper (or multiple papers within a single, coherent subject area) published in the previous calendar year according to journal issue date. The outstanding paper(s) should highlight important developments that represent new area(s) of opportunity for research which have been implemented in such a way that Georgia Tech and the larger field of that research derives benefit. In cases of multiple authors, the nomination should identify all GT faculty members among the authors and state the contributions of each faculty member, even if only one faculty member author thereof is nominated for the award. If a paper or set of papers with multiple GT faculty author nominees is chosen for an award, the nominated faculty authors will each receive a certificate and equal shares of the $3,000 award.
Each nomination package should include (a) a nomination letter (2 pages) highlighting the significance and impact of the paper(s), (b) a copy of the paper(s), and (c) a brief resume summarizing the noteworthy accomplishments of the candidate or candidates, with highlights for the period during the previous calendar year.
Young Faculty Award
Up to two awards consisting of a certificate, a plaque, and $3,000 each will be given to faculty of rank no higher than Assistant Professor or equivalent (Research Scientist, Research Engineer, etc.) for innovation that leads to improvements in research methods and programs at Georgia Tech, as evidenced by publications, program development results, and other research contributions. Contributions in the calendar year prior to the year of the award are emphasized. The contributions may be the result of a collaborative effort with other faculty or students. In the case of collaboration, a written statement indicating the contributions of the nominee is required. Each nomination package should include (a) a nomination letter (2 pages) highlighting the nominee’s contributions at Georgia Tech, (b) a copy of relevant paper(s) and other research products, and (c) a resume that includes the candidate’s noteworthy accomplishments, with highlights for the calendar year prior to the year of the award.
Student Awards
Each nomination package for a student award should include (a) a nomination letter (2 pages) stating the impact or significance of the thesis work, the name(s) of the student’s faculty advisor(s), and the contact information (phone numbers and email addresses) of the student and faculty advisor(s), (b) a resume with a list of papers, presentations, patents, or other intellectual products which resulted directly from the thesis research, and (c) a copy of the candidate’s thesis completed during the calendar year prior to the year of the award.
Best Ph.D. Thesis Award
Up to 10 awards consisting of a certificate, a plaque, and $1000 each will be given for outstanding Ph.D. theses. A certificate will also be presented to the faculty advisor(s) of each student winner.
Best M.S. Thesis Award
Up to two awards consisting of a certificate, a plaque, and $500 each will be given for outstanding M.S. theses, written report or published paper(s) resulting from partial fulfillment of the M.S. requirements. A certificate will also be presented to the faculty advisor(s) of each student winner.
Best Undergraduate Research Award
Up to two awards consisting of a certificate, a plaque, and $250 each will be given for outstanding undergraduate research as evidenced by a thesis, written report, or published paper(s). A certificate will also be presented to the faculty advisor(s) of each student winner.
Note: An undergraduate student can be nominated for the Undergraduate Award up to one year after graduation.
